Where to stay in: Munich

Lara Owen Reporter, C&IT

‘Snow on snow on snow’ goes the Christmas carol; the white wide vowels blanket the page and evoke similar scenes to the soft crumping streets of Munich in December. Having reviewed this property during its heaviest snowfall since 1933, it seemed impossible to extricate it from the winter wonderland in which it was framed.

However, whilst snowed in, it became apparent that whether you’re planning a conference, an incentive getaway or a one off event; the Munich Marriott Hotel City West provides a cosy, accessible and convivial environment for any voyage, year round.

The newly built hotel sits west of the city centre, with direct transport links and only a 40 minute car transfer to the airport. Despite being purpose built and opened in September of this year, the property feels as though it’s always been there. The interior, designed by German based company Studio Lux Berlin, draws on its Munich roots. The exposed brickwork and crittall sliding doors give rise to the local breweries. The oak and pine cladding evoke the alpine cottages, viewable from the hotel’s terrace, whilst the shades of sage and fir green kindle tones of the bordering forests.
